This lesson is super fun and popular with the students! We started with recycled toilet paper and paper towel tubes that the kids saved up. They worked in teams of 4-5 and each team approached the lesson differently. Some created their own structures and cobbled them together, some planned it out in advance with drawings, and some just talked it through and changed their minds as they went along.

The rules were to make a sculpture that was asymmetrical, abstract, and to play with height and incorporate negative space. Before we started, we had a brain storming session about how to work together so that everyone would feel valued and be able to have fun.

I wanted to share a video I made of these amazing kids working together, but it's too large, argh. Oh well!

They really got into the painting, lol (especially the one group I took a video of). They were splatter painting and standing on the table having a grand old time.

I'm super proud of how well they worked together, practicing their listening skills, valuing each other's ideas and incorporating them into their group sculpture. Excellent work!
