As a art teacher, one of my goals has been to be better about giving students time to apply what they've learned about artists to other scenarios so that they have time to integrate their own ideas. So, for this assignment, we started by looking at the work of Mondrian, and used lines and primary colors the way he did (overlapping horizontal and vertical lines to create an assymetrical design and coloring in the spaces with primary colors) just to learn the process.

So, for this 1st grade project, I asked them to pick a type of line and overlap it repeatedly, and play with spacing as we did in the other painting. But this time we were going to use all the colors and mix them ourselves. Yay!
