In this 2nd grade project, students drew a large sun in their own style. We discussed all the different ways people draw suns, for example with triangular rays or rays drawn with straight lines, wavy lines of varying lengths. We also discussed different ways of drawing the face and adding details like cheeks, eyelashes and sunglasses. The kids loved painting with the glue and using the tissue squares to color in their drawing. This project has a very satisfying quality to it, and the kids were super engaged.

As a bonus, they also learned about the difference between warm and cool colors. And, how using warm against cool colors will make the colors "pop."

I love how each one shows off their personality!

Some even chose to make their rays stand up and become 3D by using tissue wrapped around the end of a pencil. Lot's of good fine motor skills practice!
