We started this project by looking at pictures all the different shapes that pumpkins come in. We touched a real pumpkin and noted that it was bumpy because of the different ridged segments. Students were asked to draw a large pumpkin by moving their whole arm and adding the curved lines to make it look round. They then mixed yellow, red and white paint to create different shades of orange and fill the segments. Finally, faces were added by cutting and pasting shapes. Since the focus was on creating silly pumpkins, the students played with adding eyebrows and placing the pupils in different places, adding mustaches, and other silly details.
