Learning to Look Carefully - A Valuable Skill

One of the most important skills for learning to draw, is learning to look, CAREFULLY. Learning to be a keen observer of details is a skill used constantly in art, as well as science. Here this 2nd grade student is drawing what she actually sees, not what she THINKS she sees. Notice how she drew the flower from a side view, not the front.

This is what she was looking at. This is one proud teacher!

Here are some more kids looking at a different object, verrrrry carefully! You can tell they are concentrating. :)

The next step of the project was to color in the objects in any way they chose, with Payons, which is a fun art material that is a cross between a crayon and paint! They also learned to use "warm" and "cool" colors next to each other to make the elements of the drawing "pop!"

Then, they added water to the Payon, which magically turns into paint! So fun!
