Our first art project back to school, was a name project. Each grade level had a different assignment that allowed them to explore art elements and design principals.
In this 4th grade name project (below) the object was to draw a mountain made out of your name written in block letters. Letters could fit inside one another, turn sideways or upside down, and patterns would be used either in the negative spaces created, or the letters themselves.
In the 2nd grade assignment (below) students were challenged to create a design by continuously writing their name and turning the paper. They experimented with cursive, playing with size, font type, and then coloring in the negative spaces in the letters. The result, they almost look like company logos!
